WorléeAdd 8905
Special additive for the cross-linking of aqueous printing ink systems based on carboxy-functional acrylic polymers. Improves waterresistance, blocking resistance, heat and film hardness.

WorléeAdd 8905 is an alkaline zinc oxide (ZnO) solution designed for use as an additive in water-based systems. It functions as a crosslinker for water-based carboxylic acrylic polymers and also serves as a flash rust inhibitor, helping to prevent rapid rust formation on metal substrates when used in coatings. The product is typically supplied as a 15% solution in water.
Function and Benefits
When added to waterborne coating formulations, WorléeAdd 8905 provides the following performance enhancements:
- Increased water resistance: Improves the coating’s ability to withstand water exposure.
- Improved block resistance: Reduces sticking or blocking between coated surfaces.
- Better heat stability: Enhances the coating’s resistance to elevated temperatures.
- Increased film hardness: Produces a harder and more durable coating film.
- Sprayable thick film application without cracking: When used with suitable binders, thick coating layers can be applied by spraying without cracking.
- Optional flame retardant compatibility: When used together with a flame retardant additive (e.g. WorléeAdd FR 5000), the formulation can achieve flame-retardant properties.
Usage and Typical Addition Level
The typical addition level is around 5% of the total formulation. In some thermal insulation coating starting formulations, approximately 3% of WorléeAdd 8905 (15% aqueous solution) is used in the overall mix.
