ConstaSal® TR – Salt Spray Test Chamber

Chest Type Salt Spray (Fog) Test Chamber

The Liebisch ConstaSal® M-TR salt spray test chambers are specifically designed for corrosion testing in accordance with international standards such as DIN 50021, TS EN ISO 9227, ASTM B117, and ASTM B368. These chest-type units are constructed entirely from glass-fiber reinforced plastic, ensuring that no metallic components, heating units, or other elements prone to corrosion are present inside the test chamber. This guarantees long-lasting corrosion testing performance over many years.

The ConstaSal® M-TR chambers are available in three standard volumes: 400, 1000, and 2500 liters. Upon request, custom volumes such as 1200 or 3000 liters can also be provided. The top-loading design is ideal for accommodating large-volume test specimens. All standard models feature a double-walled insulated lid, providing excellent thermal efficiency and enabling energy-efficient testing at high temperatures (e.g., copper chloride-acetic acid accelerated tests above 50°C). Optionally, the lid can be manufactured from transparent plexiglass, allowing internal observation during the test. The lids on 400 L and 1000 L models are equipped with dual gas struts. The 2500 L model features a pneumatic piston mechanism, ensuring safe and comfortable handling for the operator.

The ConstaSal® TR series features proprietary wide-surface heating cells located in the front and rear chamber walls. These cells are fully thermally insulated, providing highly uniform temperature distribution and outstanding energy efficiency. Since the heating elements are completely isolated from the corrosive test environment, the system is virtually maintenance-free for many years of continuous operation. Additionally, the unit includes two separate exhaust and drainage outlets, minimizing the dispersion of salt mist into the laboratory and preventing damage to surrounding equipment. The removable strainer in the drain outlet prevents clogging caused by corrosion residues.

The ConstaSal® M-TR is designed for non-stop 24/7 operation. In many installations, samples are checked daily, removed upon test completion, and replaced with new ones without halting the system. The system features a level-controlled humidification tower, automatically supplied with water from a pressurized demineralized water line. Safety sensors monitor both high and low air pressure, while inlet and outlet pressures of the humidification tower can be monitored via onboard manometers to ensure proper humidification.

Chamber and humidifier temperatures are set independently, depending on the test standard. The spray nozzle pressure is set to around 1 bar to ensure optimal fog distribution. The digitally controlled dosing pump precisely meters the salt solution to meet condensation accumulation requirements defined by testing standards. Unlike peristaltic pumps, the calibratable digital dosing pump is unaffected by hose elasticity and does not require monthly maintenance or component replacement.

Before opening the lid (either at test end or for sample inspection), the operator can activate the ventilation function to purge the salt fog from the chamber using compressed air. Within a few minutes, the lid can be safely opened, preventing corrosive fumes from escaping into the lab environment.

Temperature control for both the test chamber and humidification tower is managed by the Liebisch PID temperature controller.
Each chamber volume is pre-configured with finely tuned PID parameters, ensuring temperature fluctuations remain within ±1°C.
An optional timer is available to automatically stop the test upon completion.

With high-quality air, demineralized water, and salt sources, the ConstaSal® M-TR can operate trouble-free for many years without requiring maintenance. However, due to potential contamination caused by water quality (e.g., algae in suction lines) or impurities in the air supply, periodic maintenance is recommended—typically once per year, and potentially every two years under ideal environmental conditions.

All maintenance services are performed by the Kar Kimya technical team based in Türkiye.
