Taber Crockmeter Friction Resistance Testing Device

The Taber Crockmeter is an instrument that provides a fast and precise method for determining the amount of color transferred from textile materials to other surfaces through rubbing.
The Taber Crockmeter is designed to simulate the human finger and arm, as specified in internationally recognized test standards. The instrument uses standardized pressure and rubbing motion to ensure reliable and repeatable test results.
Applications of the Taber Crockmeter
The Taber Crockmeter is used to test colored textile products including fabrics, carpets, yarns, and leather. It can also be used for smear and smudge resistance testing on printed or copied images, as well as for abrasion, rubbing, and/or scratch testing on solid-colored specimens.
Originally designed to replicate the movements of a human finger and forearm, the instrument utilizes standardized pressure and rubbing motion to provide reliable and repeatable test results.
Operating Procedure of the Taber Crockmeter
Specimens are placed on the base of the instrument and secured using the specimen holder. To prevent the specimen from slipping during the test, sandpaper is provided for placement beneath the specimen.
A hand crank moves the reciprocating arm over a distance of approximately 100 mm. The rubbing action is performed by a 16 mm diameter acrylic “finger” that moves back and forth in a straight line with each complete rotation of the crank. The reciprocating load arm is weighted to apply a constant 9 N load on the specimen, while a mechanical counter records the number of completed cycles.
