Pencil Hardness Test acc. Wolff Wilborn

Determination of Film Hardness in Paints and Varnishes

The TQC-Sheen Pencil Hardness Tester is a simple and effective test apparatus designed to evaluate the scratch resistance (hardness) of paints, varnishes, and coatings according to the Wolff-Wilborn method.

In this test, graphite pencils graded from 6B to 8H are used. The pencil is fixed at a 45° angle and applied to the coated surface with a constant pressure to produce a scratch. Following a series of tests, visual inspection is performed to determine which pencil grade causes visible damage to the surface.

The device is supplied as a complete set, including 20 Koh-i-noor pencils and a special sharpener.
