PHYNIX Sensortechnik GmbH is a German technology company based in Neuss, Germany, specialising in the development and manufacture of precision instruments for coating thickness measurement and surface inspection. Its non-destructive measuring systems are used to determine the thickness of paint, lacquer, plastic, galvanised coatings and other protective or decorative coatings reliably and repeatably.

PHYNIX coating thickness gauges operate according to the magnetic induction principle on iron and steel substrates, and the eddy current principle on aluminium, copper, brass and other non-ferrous metals. Models equipped with dual-purpose probes can automatically identify the substrate material and select the appropriate measurement method.

Ranging from the Surfix®, Pocket-Surfix® and PaintCheck series to advanced systems with external probes, the product portfolio supports both standard measurements and specialised applications involving small components, pipes, recesses, high-temperature surfaces and complex geometries.

In addition to coating thickness gauges, the PHYNIX product portfolio includes instruments and accessories for measuring wet film thickness, surface roughness, gloss, hardness, pores and discontinuities, cross-cut adhesion and ultrasonic wall thickness.

These solutions are used for incoming inspection, production monitoring, quality assurance, and research and development in industries including automotive, metalworking, paints and coatings, corrosion protection, shipbuilding, aerospace, mechanical engineering and construction.

Founded in Cologne in 1999, PHYNIX has operated from its facility in Neuss since 2017. Developed and manufactured in Germany, its instruments are designed with an emphasis on precision, durability, ease of use and a long service life.

PHYNIX also provides pre-sales technical consultancy, instrument calibration and certification, maintenance and repair services. The references used for calibration are traceable to Germany’s national length standard, supporting measurement reliability in quality-control processes.
