Taber Instrument Corporation was founded by Ralph Taber in 1941 to manufacture precision material testing instruments. As the company’s Chief Engineer, Ralph Taber developed numerous instruments that helped improve the understanding of the physical properties of materials. The best known of these is the rotary platform abrasion tester, now known as the Taber Rotary Platform Abraser.

First developed in the 1930s, the instrument’s fundamental operating principle is still referenced in numerous test standards and specifications worldwide.

Taber Instrument Corporation was acquired by Teledyne in 1966 and subsequently became known as Teledyne Taber. Following a change of ownership in August 1992, the company began operating under the name Taber Industries.

Since 1941, the Taber name has become synonymous with quality, reliability and precision measurement. The company maintains comprehensive control over its production processes by carrying out design, machining, mechanical and electronic assembly, calibration and testing in-house. Taber’s in-house testing laboratory is also accredited in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
