Taber Heavy Duty Linear Abraser

Taber® Heavy Duty Linear Abraser is a device used to test the material properties of rough and durable surfaces that require increased test load or stroke length. Supplied with a 2″ diameter Universal Attachment and Scotch-Brite™ abrasive pad, the instrument is ideal for measuring a coating’s resistance to abrasion using an abrasive pad. A common application includes testing non-stick coatings used on cookware.

Similar to the standard Taber Linear Abraser, the test accessory is secured under a vertical splined shaft, and additional weights can be placed on the integrated weight holder at the top. A precision bearing on the splined shaft creates a “free-floating” test system. As the test arm moves linearly, this floating system allows the test accessory to raise or lower as it follows the contours of the specimen—whether flat or slightly curved.

The base load of the test accessory, splined shaft, and weight holder is 500g. Optional weights of 1000g, 2000g, and 4050g can be added to the holder to increase the test load. Thanks to its high-torque motor, the device can support a maximum test load of 20 lb (9 kg) (weights sold separately).

Other features of the Heavy Duty Linear Abraser include a slotted cylinder track that allows for adjustable stroke lengths up to 318 mm (12.5″), five preset speeds (15, 30, 37, 45, and 60 cycles per minute), and an integrated T-slot platform for securely mounting samples during testing.

With interchangeable attachments, the Heavy Duty Linear Abraser can be configured—like the standard Linear Abraser—for testing resistance or susceptibility to abrasion, scratching, scrubbing, gouging, and more. The unit is suitable for both dry and wet testing. An optional second test arm kit can be added to increase throughput by enabling two tests to be run simultaneously.
