TQC-Sheen Digital RotoThinner
Special Rotational Viscometer
TS EN ISO 2884-2
(Paints and varnishes – Determination of viscosity using rotational viscometers – Part 2: Disc or ball viscometers operated at a specified speed)
BS 3900-A7:1968
The TQC Sheen Digital RotoThinner is a professional laboratory testing instrument designed to evaluate the settling and stability behavior of paints, inks, varnishes, and other liquid coating materials under accelerated conditions. While traditional storage stability tests may require weeks or even months to produce results, the RotoThinner provides reliable stability data in a significantly shorter time by rotating samples under controlled conditions.
Its adjustable rotation speed and digital control system allow optimum test parameters to be established for a wide range of product formulations. The instrument helps assess critical characteristics such as pigment settling, phase separation, agglomeration, and storage stability, enabling faster product development and more efficient quality control processes.
Widely used by paint, coating, ink, chemical, and raw material manufacturers, the Digital RotoThinner provides an effective solution for predicting product shelf life, comparing formulation performance, and ensuring consistent production quality.
Features and Usage
The tin paint can supplied with the device is filled with the paint sample to be measured and placed on the magnetic ring located on the device’s base. The measuring spindle is immersed into the liquid by lowering the device’s arm. Once the arm reaches its lowest point, the spindle starts rotating at a preset constant speed. The device displays the real-time viscosity value in Poise on its screen.
When working with self-leveling liquids, measurements can stabilize quickly. Thixotropic materials require more time, as the spindle agitates the material, which affects the measurement values. For this reason, the TQC-Sheen Digital RotoThinner offers several predefined reading modes.
Manual measurement starts when the arm is fully lowered. In Continuous Measurement Mode, results are displayed in real time. Max. Hold Mode displays the peak measurement value, and there is also a Timed Auto-Read Mode for thixotropic products. An Automatic Screen Hold function is also available to make it easier to record values afterward.
