TQC Digital RotoThinner

TQC-Sheen RotoThinner is a viscometer that combines two functions in a single device, specially developed for testing paints. The device is used for continuously measuring viscosity during the addition of solvent or thinner to paints and varnishes, allowing the product to be adjusted to its shipment or application viscosity. ViscoThinner provides unique data on the product’s shear performance in both laboratory and production settings by performing viscosity analysis after a user-defined mixing time.

The flexible design of the TQC-Sheen RotoThinner gives the user maximum control over the thinning process while also generating critical product stability data. Therefore, it is perfectly suited for use in both production and laboratory environments.

The tin paint can supplied with the device is filled with the paint sample to be measured and placed on the magnetic ring located on the device’s base. The measuring spindle is immersed into the liquid by lowering the device’s arm. Once the arm reaches its lowest point, the spindle starts rotating at a preset constant speed. The device displays the real-time viscosity value in Poise on its screen.

When working with self-leveling liquids, measurements can stabilize quickly. Thixotropic materials require more time, as the spindle agitates the material, which affects the measurement values. For this reason, the TQC-Sheen RotoThinner offers several predefined reading modes. Manual measurement starts when the arm is fully lowered. In Continuous Measurement Mode, results are displayed in real time. Max. Hold Mode displays the peak measurement value, and there is also a Timed Auto-Read Mode for thixotropic products. An Automatic Screen Hold function is also available to make it easier to record values afterward.
