Taber Shear / Scratch Tester
Test device for determining the resistance of surfaces to indentation, scratching, and marring
Taber Shear / Scratch Tester is a motorized instrument designed to evaluate the scratch resistance of materials. During testing, the specimen plate rotates at a constant speed while a conical diamond stylus is pressed against the surface. The depth of the scratch, combined with the load applied to the stylus, indicates the hardness level of the test surface.
Versatile Application
In addition to quality control, the Taber Shear / Scratch Tester is widely used in material and product development. Its applications include evaluating the adhesive properties of surface coatings, identifying inconsistencies in comparative materials, ranking similar or competitive products, and analyzing the effects of aging under controlled environmental conditions.
